Snow, slush or icy roads, all these winter weather challenge you and your car. Besides"be careful" and "drive slowly", what else can we prepare to decrease the risk?
Here are some winter driving safety tips that Carrobot provide for you:
1.Take care of your battery and charging system
As winter is coming, the cold weather makes the oil not as fluid as it was in summer, which makes the engine is harder to start and your car battery may doesn't have enough oomph and power. It is always good for your to ask your mechanic check the batter and charging the system.
2. Check your cooling system
In most areas, you need a 50-50 mix of coolant to water but not 100% coolant. The 50-50 mix has a lower freezing point while 100% coolant is less able to transfer heat away from your engine and may cause such nasty things as melted spark plugs of engine failure.
Protection | Freeze-up Protection | Boilover Protection | Corrosion Protection |
Minimum 50% anti-freeze 50% Water | -34ºF | +265ºF | Exceeds all ASTM and SAE standards for corrosion protection |
Maximum 70% anti-freeze 30% Water | -84ºF | +276ºF |
You can check it in most gas station or by yourself with a little device which you can buy in an auto part store for a few bucks.
3. Keep your gas tank and windshield washer reservoir full
Snowy or messy day always makes the gas and windshield washer fluid go faster.
4. Carry the sand in the back of car for some emergency
We suggest you carry about 20 pound bag in your front of trunk in case your rear-wheel-drive may need help in the snow. The sand will help you increase the traction of the rear wheels. And storing a substantial snow brush ,an ice scraper, and shovel might help you as well.
5. Drive with your lights on, even during the day.
Winter weather conditions reduce visibility. Even if it is not snowing, sleeting, or icing at the moment, you headlights will serve as an extra safety precaution.
6. Wear sunglasses if the road is full of snow
The white snow is too bright to let you see around.
7. Always stay focus on the road and hold the steer wheel with two hands.
